DESCRIPTION:MUSIC FROM MASTER COMPOSERS OF THE BAROQUE ERARoyal Northern Sinfonia\, the world-class\, full-time chamber orchestra based at the Sage Gateshead have been regular visitors to Keswick in recent years and rightly have a strong following amongst audiences in the north. This year we are very pleased to welcome a chamber ensemble comprising baroque strings complemented with wind soloists.\nThey will be playing an attractive programme of music by the well-known masters of that era including “Spring” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons alongside contrasting classical favourites and some virtuosic solo concertos.\nPlease Note. When not performing as a group\, the four members have busy freelance schedules playing with Britten Sinfonia\, English National Ballet\, London Symphony Orchestra\, London Sinfonietta\, Jazz Jamaica All Stars Big Band and Welsh National Opera among others.\nTheir concert features a superbly atmospheric first half featuring some brilliant music by baroque masters Monteverdi and Gesualdo that is guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up; along with some more recent work including a masterpiece of the repertoire by Enescu. They specialise in the core repertoire for wind quintet but also take a strong interest in adding to the current repertoire\, promoting arrangements and new works from emerging composers.\nThey formed in December 2017 after studying at the RNCM\, and swiftly achieved competition success and critical recognition\, since when they’ve performed at major venues and events including the Bridgewater Hall\, the RNCM Chamber Music Festival\, the Buxton International Festival and the Lake District Summer Music Festival. When not playing in Festivo\, members of the group have played in top orchestras including: the Hallé\, BBC Philharmonic\, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra\, Royal National Scottish Orchestra\, and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.\nThe group have also taken part in the “FridayLive” scheme in Cumbria\, performing and delivering workshops to pupils and students in primary and high schools across the region.\nFestivo’s programme includes lively works by Mozart\, Milhaud and others\, and superb wind quintets by Nielsen and Francaix. The group members are all multi-instrumentalists with backgrounds in renaissance\, classical and traditional music; and in PIVA they meld all these influences together to create music of the past played for audiences of today. Having won the Royal Overseas League String Competition 2018 and Mirecourt International Competition 2016 he’s rightly gaining increasing recognition as an exceptional soloist\, and as a chamber musician. Notable recent performances include as co-soloist with Anne-Sophie Mutter in Bach’s Double Concerto and playing in a live-streamed masterclass on the Brahms Concerto conducted by Maxim Vengerov. Later in 2020 he’s taking part in the prestigious Sibelius Competition.\nEmmanuel is accompanied by South Africa born pianist Jenny Stern\, well-known in the UK as a superb accompanist\, chamber musician and teacher. Eric is the brilliant Chinese-America pianist who won the First Prize in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018. He is already being compared with outstanding pianists of earlier generations\, having been exciting audiences around the world with his magical playing\, including a Proms debut in 2019. Still only 22 he has recently been announced as one of BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists\, and his 2020 UK tour will include concerts at Wigmore Hall and QEH among other venues.\nEric will be performing works by Schubert (including piano sonata D959)\, Prokofiev (piano sonata No.7)\, and Chopin.
