Festivo Winds are a delightful and dynamic young Wind Quintet – flute, oboe, clarinet, horn & bassoon – who together create a palpable sense of energy and fun. They specialise in the core repertoire for wind quintet but also take a strong interest in adding to the current repertoire, promoting arrangements and new works from emerging composers.
They formed in December 2017 after studying at the RNCM, and swiftly achieved competition success and critical recognition, since when they’ve performed at major venues and events including the Bridgewater Hall, the RNCM Chamber Music Festival, the Buxton International Festival and the Lake District Summer Music Festival. When not playing in Festivo, members of the group have played in top orchestras including: the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal National Scottish Orchestra, and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
The group have also taken part in the “FridayLive” scheme in Cumbria, performing and delivering workshops to pupils and students in primary and high schools across the region.
Festivo’s programme includes lively works by Mozart, Milhaud and others, and superb wind quintets by Nielsen and Francaix. If you’ve never heard this music before you are in for a real treat.
